First, a short story.
After our reception we sent the top tier of our cake home with my cousin and his wife because they had a deep freeze and more room for it. This cousin is the proud father of three precious girls ranging from seven to fifteen. His oldest and her little sister ate the top of the cake. Caitlyn, (the oldest) was crying and hugged me immediately after she ran in the regional cross country meet, (which she did very well in) I told her to stop crying because she did a great job and we were all very proud of her. She responded by telling me that she wasn't crying because she placed 15th, she was crying because she ate our wedding cake then continued to apologize. The girls eating our cake was not big deal to us, we still had groom's cake to eat on our first anniversary. Three months before our anniversary the 18 month old deep freezer died and turned the groom's cake to smelly mush. We took it all in stride because... well... that's all quite funny to us!
After a long day of chasing our nephews, we celebrated our first anniversary by having dinner at Paul's Place in Shawnee (our new favorite place.) We received an anniversary present from my awesome parents that consisted of a gift certificate to Paul's. We made it to our seven o'clock reservation a little early and as we waited for our table Chase mentioned dessert. I didn't think anything of it, we quite often talk about food that sounds good. (we're fat kids at heart) We ordered our meals and of course Chase finished his before me. As I was taking the last few bites of my steak one of the owners brought out this...
... sat it on our table and told us happy anniversary. My dear sweet husband was in cahoots with my sister and this cake at the restaurant for us. They did great! So big deal it was round not square like our original cake... it was perfect for the evening!!! Beautiful butter cream icing and the same ribbon that was on our cake. The cake was a great way to end the night.
Our actual anniversary was Sunday, which we spent at the church we got married at with my mom, sister, and nephews. Lunch with family, swimming at the Jesse's, and an evening with Trey and Danny completed the day. It was nice. There is a chance that we'll just have a cookout next year to celebrate. We shared our wedding day with friends and family... why not celebrate with them every year! ;-)
Our first year of marriage has whisked by and life continues to pass us up. We are very happy with the roads life had taken us down. We are very blessed and hope for many more years of happiness.
